Craftsmanship

Callout 01

Born in 1996, Miles & May furniture works was founded with the belief that great design and craftsmanship weren’t imports or things from the past. We believe that honest design articulated through unique material and impeccable craftsmanship will withstand the test of time. We hope you enjoy our furniture as much as we have enjoyed creating it.

Material

Callout 03

Nearly 90 percent of our wood comes from waste, recycled, and local non-commercial sources. This represents much more than just an environmental dedication, we source the best possible material for each of our designs and, simply put, most of our material can't just be bought. We stay true to our material and strive to share with you what we find so special in every piece. To that end, we hand select virtually every timber we use, have it milled and dried to our specifications. But this is only the beginning of the process. We never force a material on a design but seek to showcase it's history and unique attributes. This process is time consuming, often spanning years, but the end result is well worth the wait- material and form that are just meant to be together.

Community

Callout 03

Owners Brandon & Amy Phillips draw inspiration from their community as well as their physical  surroundings. The couple owns and operates the Cracker Factory, a 65,000 sq ft turn of the century complex located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Half of the factory is dedicated to our manufacturing facilities while the remainder is used for artistic and community development; housing gallery and exhibition space, artist studios, and letterpress printing facilities. The couple, along with several other dedicated individuals, run the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit 3 Stories, which is responsible for curating arts events, live performances and literary events at the building.
